For peeps starting their careers:
• No one has figured it out. Not even your managers. We're all just winging it as we go along.
• You might often feel "Why the fuck did they even hire a dumb person like me?"
Understand it's natural to feel like this. Like you're shit and unworthy of this opportunity. That's a part of the process.
There are only 2 possibilities here: Either you'll tap out. Or you'll come shining through.
Optimise for the latter.
• Take everything with a pinch of salt. You needn't act as per instructions laid by your seniors.
Question. Always.
• When you present a problem, make sure to bring solutions with it.
• Make quick decisions. Leaders love those who act by themselves. It's fine if you fuck up at times. At least you tried.
• You're being hired to free up someone else's time. Not to add to their headache. Understand this and the game changes.
• Learn the art of delegation early on. Golden rule I learnt from my ex-manager: First, delegate work which has your dependency and then get onto your work.
• Don't get into office politics. Nothing good has come out of it and nothing ever will. You may often feel this is a good chance to gel with your colleagues, but in the hindsight you're digging your own graves.
• You're not in the money business. You're in the "people" business.
